Can the HD-DVD drive add-on for the xbox 360 play regular DVD's in high definition?

I am planning to buy a HD drive add-on for my xbox 360 but i'm not unflinching wether it plays regular DVD's in Stiff definition.

First of all ignore about HD DVD cause it's a dead format and will no longer be maintained by Toshiba because blu-ray won the event. So this is not a good think to buy some stuff that will not be developed in the later.
