Why does Sony Home Entertainment release a lot of Blu-Ray movies?

It seems like a lot of Blu-rays are released through Sony Adroit in entertainment. Is this because they would rather have sony Release them and not pay them licensing fees or is it because it's cheaper this way because sony has more muscle?
