I'm looking at Sony computers online, and a lot of the laptops say that they have blu-ray disc assistance, rather than just saying they have a blu-ray player. What does this convey?

It means, it is up to you to reach whether you want a BD drive or not. If you just get a DVD push, it will be cheaper.

(Not everyone cares to watch BD movies on a computer)
